Got em…
Kellar finally got the first round of his h1n1 vaccinations, whew! I’m sure finding the 2nd shot will be as hard as it was getting him the 1st, but at least we do have some “immunity” to it now hopefully. I’ve still been pretty much keeping Kellar in as much as possible, we have ventured to eat a time or two but daycare and stores are still not even on our radar at the moment, maybe after this week passes and it’s been 2 weeks since the shot I’ll get braver. I’m sure some probably think that not only me but other parents are nuts for getting our children vaccinated with such a “new” vaccine, but I made the decision that I felt was best for my child, just as I chose to get him the “new” seasonal vaccine, yes that’s right it’s new from year to year as well. There are lots of things that truly baffle me when it comes to vaccinations and the choices that some make but that’s a whole nother post all together. I am sooooo ready for Christmas to get here! I have been looking online at tickets for the Polar Express train ride, I think that will be lots of fun if I can plan it around Joeys work schedule. Still notta lot going on round here but we love it!

You’re absolutely right. The seasonal flu shot is reformulated every year and if the virus had been available sooner, H1N1 would of been added to this year’s flu shot. You have to do what you think is right for your son. Cora hasn’t gotten either shot yet! Once she was old enough to get the flu shot everyone was out! I’ve been stalking the Pedi to see if they have it yet, still no shots! Oh well, we are keeping her in too. It kinda sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do!

I was very torn whether or not to get it for Elizabeth. I know she needs it because of her lungs etc. but I was not comfortable giving her something fairly new (we have never had an adjuvented vaccine in Canada) and I myself had a bad reaction a flu shot. We did get her done and she had high fevers and could not walk by the morning, even sitting was hard for her. I think she is a bit of an odd ball like her Mom and we are not goood candidate for vaccines. The news here is kids over the age of 3 do not need another dose which is good because I don’t think I will take her.

Leslie- I am scheduling Kellar for his 2nd one in the morning. I stalked the pedis office, Tiny Tots and our health clinics here, they knew my voice! I had already prepared the ladies I work with that if Tiny Tots said they had them I was hanging up the phone and heading out the door to get Kellar and then we were hitting the road to Dallas..
We have been keeping Kellar in for months now, I am feeling somewhat braver but still won’t allow him to sit in a public buggy or play on public toys! We took him to town Saturday and you would’ve thought he’d never ever been outside, it was funny but sad too..
Anji- I’m sorry to hear that Elizabeth had a bad reaction…as a preemie mom it seems we are constantly torn on what to do when it comes to our children..I felt it was something I really needed to do and just prayed that I was making the right choice…November 17th, 2009 at 11:23 pm. Permalink.
