It’s only Monday…

but Kellar has made my week already! He said a 4 word sentence tonight, proud is not even a good way to describe my feelings! Kellar loves Blues Clues, I mean loves it. I do admit my child watches Blue on a regular basis, but I really feel that he has learned so much from watching it, he will say something or point something out to me and I’ll think for days “where did he get that from?” only to later hear it on Blues Clues. We were sitting in the floor drawing in his handy dandy notebook and he flips it over and tells me “paw print mommy” , I said yes that is a paw print Kellar, he then says “notepad” and opens it up to draw and then he looks across the room and says “thinking chair over there” I made this huge deal about how proud I was of him and of course he just looked at me like I had lost my mind! Kellar also has a fascination for sock puppets, yes he’s seen this on Blues Clues as well, he loves to put socks on his hands and say “hi sock puppet” then he gives it a kiss. Isn’t he the sweetest? I am so behind on posting so I’ll go ahead and get all of you trusty readers up to date. I took Kellar last Monday back to Temple for therapy ( only to find out it that it would cost me $47 a visit ) and talked with his speech therapist about Kellars lack of combining words to form 3 word sentences, now we do get a few here and there so he can do it he just doesn’t. He will repeat 3 words all day long but just coming out and saying them is far and few between. His vocabulary is huge if only he’d put a list of things together! PT was really about the same, he climbed stairs and ran around the building, the little booger needs to learn to jump and peddle a tricycle! He knows the concept of jumping but it’s like his feet are stuck to the ground, he’ll bend at the knees and come straight up and make this grunting noise while saying “jump” but his feet are firmly planted, but bless his heart he thinks he’s jumping! Kellar also climbed our front porch steps all by himself, I have been really afraid to let him try this because going up and down the stairs really challenges his balance but he did it, now if only I could get brave enough to let him try coming down.

Who needs a potty…

when you can just use your playhouse? Yes that’s right, my darling dear Kellar pulled his diaper off and used the bathroom in his playhouse, thank you God that he was over the diarrhea that we’ve been dealing with! I was floored, part of me honestly could not help but laugh and I was undecided on whether to praise him b/c he didn’t poo in his diaper or get onto him b/c he did it next to Rivers pillow in the playhouse, decisions decisions! Since he knew he had to go and even took his diaper off to go and then told me he poo pooed when I asked him what he was doing, I am wondering if he may be ready to start attempting potty training, or is pooing in your playhouse equivalent to a boy tinkling behind a tree in the yard…just something little cute boys find amusing!

Kellar-nastics..

Today was our 2nd time going to gymnastics which really leaves me wondering what on earth was I thinking? Kellar has missed 3 or 4 wks due to some sort of illness and since we’re coming up on “sick” season I love that you can pay on a month to month basis, well maybe that’s not entirely b/c of sick season but more in case I can’t take it anymore and decide I can run and chase him like a crazy person in our front yard for free! I do think it will be great for Kellar if I can stick with it, there’s just something about going somewhere where the other little ones are minding and doing what is asked and I am the mom chasing my child all over the gym while tripping over the mats, you know those booby trapped mats, you step on them and you sink. Circle time…wow circle time! I could not get him to do anything, finally the instructor asked him to come to her and he took off running to her and sat down in her lap like the perfect little boy and even did the exercises for her, great my child will mind a total stranger before he will me! He does not like structure, he did not like me trying to show him how to do any of the flips, if I tried to take his hand to show him something ( he hates hand over hand, hates it! ) it resulted in him falling to the floor kicking his legs and then laying out stiff as a board so I finally just got him and went and sat down. I know it’s going to take a lot of work to get Kellar to follow directions and stay on task, but more importantly it’s going to take a lot of patience from me and I’m not 100% sure I’m ready to tackle it. Do I think the class would be helpful.. sure, do I think Kellar needs structure..oh goodness yes! But I’m not sure that trying to make him do something that he’s not wanting to do is worth the meltdown that occurs or the frustration that I feel…
