Fun in Canton…

Yesterday Kellar, MeMe, Aunt KayKay and I all headed to Canton, TX to do a little shopping and a whole lotta walking..We had a blast and spent the whole day there…This was Brendas 1st Canton experience and I’m sure one she’ll never forget and we are already planning our next visit when it cools off to be a overnight stay so we won’t have to do quite so much walking in one day and we can actually take time to look at things rather than trying to cram it all in on one day…Kellar enjoyed being strolled around in his stroller and of course all the attention he got from all the ladies…I even had a long talk w/a very nice family that had a store there, they were actually very familiar with the whole NICU experience and even came outside the store to hold Kellar and play with him, Kellar loved the attention and was quite fond of their dog…Kellar got to see a baby Kangaroo which by the way was oh so cute, we saw a ringtail lemur and these little pot belly pigs, oh they were adorable and if I knew Joey wouldn’t have booted me out of the house I would have brought one home…So after a day that started off not so good with the news that Amos ( a sheep that my dad raised from a baby and was loved ohhh so much ) had gotten sick and passed away it turned out really nice and we can’t wait to go back…

So far no allergies…

I took Kellar to the pedi allergist here in town and good news is that as of right now he is not showing to have any allergies…At first she wasn’t going to test him b/c at this age little ones at times will show and allergy to something they really aren’t allergic to and vice versa but since there was so much going on with him she decided to go ahead with the testing…The test wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be..The nurse numbered Bears back 1-15 and she had these little toothpick looking things that had a drop of “stuff” in between the “prongs” and she would take it and stick it into his back and turn it, she did my arm to show me what it felt like, granted it’s not something I’d do just for the fun of it but it wasn’t painful like I had envisioned…After about 5 or so he wasn’t liking it and began to squirm and whimper…The end result..NO ALLERGIES seen…Yay…So I think the conclusion is is that Kellar is just having colds and sinus infections which is causing him to snot and sneeze and then end up with a croupy cough which forces us to do breathing treatments for weeks and weeks…She did say that she feels that he has one thing to start out with, that in turn turns into something else and then from that we have something else and on and on and that at times allergies and colds do show some of the same signs and symptoms…He also did not show a allergy to milk, so he is now classified as lactose intolerant…I wasn’t aware of this but she said that their is actually more people who are lactose intolerant than those that are tolerant…( did you get that…) I was sort of shocked at this…She did however put Kellar on Singulair and we are to try this for 2 wks and see how he does…The cough and runny nose is still lingering, I wish it would hurry up and get on out of here….

Bye-Bye Tiny Tots…

Friday was our last visit to Tiny Tots in Dallas…Weird I had that same feeling of saying good-bye to everyone as I did when I left Baylor with Kellar though my attachment to the nurses at Baylor was far greater than at the clinic it was still weird knowing that I won’t be seeing them unless I choose to just go and visit..I know this is a good thing, Carrie came in and seen Kellar and said that she thinks Kellar looks awesome and she doesn’t think it’s necessary for us to drive 3 hrs for them to see him…She wasn’t worried about his speech evaluation b/c of Kellars adjusted age and she said that when little ones are working so hard in one area such as crawling and walking they tend to slack off in the speech area and then once they get walking and such down they pick up in speech…Kellar had lost a little bit of weight since his last appt 3 wks ago, I wasn’t surprised since he has been so sick and really had not had much of an appetite, they paged the nutritionist and she walked in took one look at him and said he looks great, his growth and weight has been really good and if I’m not worried neither is she…We go back in 3 wks for his last band adjustment and his “exit cast”, how exciting is this???? I am so ready and I know he has to be…

Our speech eval showed…

DELAYED…In my heart I knew this so why is it always harder to actually hear those dreaded words? I have felt for a month or so that Kellar was delayed in this area but I held onto that little bit of hope that he actually was ok for a 13 month old…Alot of the things he scored so low on I don’t actually do with him…If I think he’s thirsty I just go get him a drink, if I think he wants a cookie I go get it, if I want his shoes I go get them, if I want him to play with the ball I go get it, guess I have been doing wrong all along…He doesn’t point at what he wants, could this be because he has never had to try and communicate what he wants with anybody? Does he take me into the kitchen and show me he wants a drink or something to eat? Uhm that would be a big NO as well, again he’s never had to do this, when it’s time to eat I go get him and place him at the table…Do these things just come naturally to children or do they have to learn this way of communication? I don’t know!!! She asked if he knows any of his body parts, again NO..I have been to busy working on sitting up, catching himself when he falls, “safely” pulling to stand, crawling and the list goes on and on, did I mention having a preemie and all the stuff you have to do with them to try and keep them “age appropriate” is a full time job with hours and hours of overtime? My homework is now repeating things to him over and over, which by the way I do all day long anyhow…If I have said ball to him while holding a ball once, I have said it a gazillion times and yet sometimes if I ask “where’s the ball” he may look for it ( look for it not go get it, we are working on that as well..) and then again he may look at me as if he’s never heard that word before..He says dada but does he relate dada to Joey, I really don’t think he does..Does he recognize Joey, yes his face lights up when he sees him so I know he recognizes him but why doesn’t he realize that Joey is dada…He babbles constantly which the therapist said is a very good sign, when you say something he babbles back so hopefully this like everything else will be something that I worry over for nothing…This is just another thing that is going to take lots of prayers…Also Kellars cousin Ty could use some prayers, I tell ya these 2 little ones are like 2 peas in a pod…
