Kellar
25th-50th %
Kellar had his 15 month check-up yesterday in Dallas..He now weighs 21 lbs 12 oz and is in the 25-50th percentile for weight, height and head circumference…I in a way figured he would be heavier, he eats non-stop and feels like a sack of rocks but I suppose 21 lbs isn’t to shabby considering where he started out at..He was evaluated by the dr, I think he was pretty pleased with Kellars progress, but as usual always quick to point out what he’s not “up to par” on…He feels that he is doing well in gross motor skills, but would like to see him a little farther advanced in fine motor, basically what it came down to was that Kellar didn’t grab or reach for blocks like he wanted him too..He also pointed out that Kellar had a tendency to use one hand more than the other, which those of you who have been following Kellar through this blog will remember that he does this from time to time, he tends to use one certain hand for a period of time, then he switches to the other for a period of time, my point is is that he DOES use both hands, but regardless it threw up a red flag…I need to work with him on putting objects into containers, he will take them out and empty things out of containers but he needs to put them in…He commented on Kellars left leg being low in tone, I am floored and to be honest with you I have chose to let this go in one ear and out the other, I have NEVER heard that about his leg and we have seen enough dr’s and therapist that I feel that if it were a concern it would have been mentioned, matter of fact he commented on the last visit with him which was several months ago that it was fine…At times I think that b/c Kellar was a preemie that anything he does is going to be “concerning”…He got his shots before we left, that is always the worst part of the trip..We met Stacie a friend of mine for lunch then headed to get his band adjusted, I think the therapist was not to pleased with the fact that I have not had him in it but he has not only been sick but the band didn’t seem to fit him well and it was rubbing his forehead…We leave there and go and get him fitted for his frames, they are not the prettiest things, in fact they are a plastic frame, they actually look like toy glasses but they are supposed to be durable, have no screws or hinges so we shall see…The plan is just to have him in these till he a.) gets used to wearing glasses and b.) gets out of the band…We headed to Gymboree afterwards and picked Bear up some clothes for this winter, ate at PF Changs and headed home, in the rain, the pouring rain…I called the NICU thinking that Kellars Ms. Leslie was working and we would swing by and see her but she wasn’t there…Did I mention that Kellar is rotten? Like spoiled rotten? If not that’s a whole nother post, but for now I must go b/c this rotten little monster is needing some attention since he never gets it..yea right!!!!!
Aquatic therapy…
Today was Kellars 1st day in aquatic therapy, and the way the session started out I figured it would also be his last…Kellar was very unsure of the water, or maybe it was the strange lady that was trying to make him take a dip in that quite frigid water…He wouldn’t even let her dip his feet in without crying, she tried several ways to ease him into it and he wanted no part of it what so ever…After probably15 minutes or so of trying to ease Kellar into at least touching the water she came to me and said that she wasn’t sure if he was going to like it just yet…He was leaning towards me with this save me momma look on his face, I took him and went to the kiddie pool and sat down with him, he sat with me, then before you know it he’s playing with the floating toys, trying to crawl to this black dot on the bottom of the wading pool…Jeneanne came over and got in front of him and was able to do some stuff with him, hey at least it’s a start..Next week I may end up having to get in with him also, I am going to try letting Brooke get in with him and see if it makes any difference…He was wore out and fell asleep on the way home, here’s hoping next week goes better…Kellar has a purple bruise on his right ear, he was walking behind his walker and it got away from him, he flipped over and under and somehow hit his ear..Poor baby…At times he does okay behind it, others not so good…He has figured out how to take blocks apart now, the kids at my moms house put the leggos together and in the afternoon when we go down to visit his papaw and meme he finds the blocks and pulls them apart, it’s hilarious to watch him do this…Our 15 month check-up is Thursday, I’m really curious to see what he weighs, he sure feels heavy…
Happy *Adjusted* Birthday Bear…
Today would be Bears adjusted birthday, my lil man is officially 1 years old…Kellar to me seems like he is doing things that I would expect him to be doing, but this is my 1st child so I really have nothing to compare him to, and even then all kids do things at different times…Kellar is not walking yet, I at times think we are close, then at times I’m not sure, yes I realize that most kids are walking by now, and I get quite a few blank stares from people wanting to know if he’s walking yet when I tell them that he’s not…There are quite a few things we need to still work on like waving bye-bye, talking and walking, but he’ll get there I’m quite sure of this…We have bought him rings to work on taking off of the pole and putting them back on, he has taking them off down pat, but not quite interested in stacking them back on it…We decided he was old enough to get out his dinosaur toy that you drop the balls into the holes and they make it play music and light up and at times when it comes out of the dinosaurs mouth it “roars”, he will take the balls and try to get it in the holes, we just need some more practice..He turns pages on his books and he looks at it and at times I’d swear he’s reading it…His balance has gotten somewhat better when pulling to stand, he will take a few steps behind his walk along toy but gets bored with that fairly quickly as well, or maybe he’ just figured out he can crawl and get to where he wants quicker…He’ll try anything to eat at least once, he’s really not a picky eater, at times we still have issues with textures, but for the most part he loves to eat…We are on food now that he actually has to chew on, he likes fish sticks ( one thing that momma doesn’t like..) peas and carrots, french fries are a big hit when we go to Wal-Mart we have to run into McDonalds to get him some fries…The soy milk seems to be doing ok, he drinks alot of it, last night he took over 9 ounces at bedtime..He has a rash on his foot, I am not sure if it’s the milk or something else going on, he has been on this for going on 2 wks so I would think it would have shown up sooner, we go to Tiny Tots this week so I’ll be sure and mention that..We also go for a band adjustment and to pick out Kellars frames for his glasses…Fun Fun..
Not ready just yet…
Last week we decided to put Kellar on whole milk, he seemed to do well for the first few days…He has been eating table foods that have whole milk in it and again he does fine with these…I was just talking about how well he has done, how there was no spitting, no unusual dirty diapers and I kid you not, like 5 minutes later he spits up, I thought my gosh why did you even say anything about he’s doing well on the milk with no spitting…I clean him up, move him and he does it again, are you kidding me, he was doing so good, this continued for the majority of the day…That night when Joey was getting Kellar to sleep, he was very very fussy, Kellar here lately has been a handful when it comes to bedtime, no more just laying him down and in a few minutes he’s out…We now deal with him tossing, turning, flipping, flopping, crying, and this goes on for over an hour at times, so when he was very very fussy a couple of nights we didn’t know if it was a stomach ache from the milk or just him fighting sleep like usual…The next day I called Tiny Tots and told them that he doesn’t appear to be handling the whole milk as well as we hoped, so we are now on Soy milk, I won’t say how he’s doing on it just yet…We are still giving him the table foods with whole milk but I just don’t think he’s ready for whole milk by itself just yet…
