Spiderman has left the building….
It’s official, Kellar did swallow the band-aid, no more going back and forth over how there is no way possible that he swallowed it w/out choking, gagging or something, but I am here to tell you all, he did it…Thank goodness it’s out though, he had till tomorrow to pass it or we were going to have to go to the dr, I really dreaded this b/c there was that 1 % chance that Kellar did some magical trick and made it disappear, but yet I was more than 99 % positive that it was in his belly…Earlier today I had given Kellar a pep-talk, he had a dirty diaper earlier this afternoon, but there was no band-aid…I told him, “Kellar if you don’t get this band-aid out, we are gonna have to go to the dr tomorrow and he may have to stick something in your hiney-bo to make you go potty” well the very next dirty diaper, I opened it up and was lucky enough to not even have to dig around, there it was, still bright blue w/little spidermans all over it..I was like Joey there it is, there it is, then I had to laugh because the little toot really did swallow it, he had notta clue how worried we were over this, in fact the night he swallowed it he was laughing at everything we did trying to find it, guess he knew we could look all day long and we wouldn’t find it till he wanted us to…
1 yr check-ups are noooo fun…
We ( my aunt Brenda and I ) took Kellar to Dallas yesterday for his 1 yr check-up, all was going well till it came time for those lovely shots…My poor baby got a TB Skin test, which I know those things are very uncomfortable, then the nurse pricked his finger to check for lead in his blood, somehow this did not end up as a prick but rather a slit on the tip of his finger, then he was given a shot in each leg, I was almost in tears for him, it’s awful to have to listen to your child scream in pain, he has no clue what is going on, one second he’s laughing and talking, the next he’s being hurt, makes me want to cry just thinking about it..Kellar weighed 19 lbs 14 oz, which honestly I am quite shocked, I figured he would be well over 20, in fact I still can’t help but think if he didn’t spit up so much of what he takes in he would be, his spitting up is still awful..He was 28 inches long, yea I think he’s going to take after his daddy here…He is on the growth charts for weight, right on the verge of being on it for head circumference and length..Ronnie ( the NP ) was impressed with how well Kellar seems to be doing, she is not worried about him not catching himself when he falls, she said that technically he is only 9 months, and some kids are just now trying to sit up, where Kellar sits well unassisted, and even sits himself up so she thinks this will come with time, please pray that he gets this down, I know that I worry myself into a corner over these things and then he ends up doing them, but a little prayer won’t hurt anything..She also said she thinks we may need to invest in some running shoes b/c she thinks we’ll be chasing him all over everywhere before long..We also went for another band check-up, we are going to go with a second band, I just can’t not do all that is possible to make his head as close to round as possible, he’s been in it this long what is 2 more months going to harm…After we were done with appointments, we headed to do some shopping..We stopped by the mall and hit the Gymboree, believe it or not I didn’t find anything for Bear, yes I am just as shocked, we did pick up a birthday gift for Tori girl..While in there we noticed that Kellars finger had started to drip blood, not just a trickle but big drops of blood, I find a bandaid and stick it on there, mind you this to him is just something for him to knaw on till he can get it off…Then we headed to Babies R’ Us, I love this store and wish we had one closer..I pick up a few things and some spider man bandaids b/c Kellar has now soaked the bandaid, we get to the car and I put the new one on his finger, Kellar and his aunt Kay Kay are watching Cars and playing in the back seat and we head home…About half-way home, Kellar is playing with Brendas fingers, and she says, ” Chris the bandaids gone, I couldn’t find a place to pull over fast enough, I end up pulling over in a adult store parking lot, yes I know not the best place by far but I was concerned that it was in his mouth…I get out and Brenda and I look the car over, took Kellar out of his seat, looked in his clothes, on his shoes, in his socks, mouth, floorboard, carseat, under the seat and there is no bandaid anywhere..I am freaking out over this, weird thing is we never heard him cough, give any indication that he had swallowed it, the kid gags on some baby food that has “chunk” in it yet he gulped down a bandaid w/no problems..I am floored..I called the dr and was told that we need to be on poop patrol for 3 days, please pray that the spidey will pass out the hiney soon…I can see that this lil man is going to keep Joey and I on our toes for sure…
Lots to update…
Ok so Friday was Bear’s birthday, the big number 1. Friday night, he also got his first ever haircut! His hair was really only long over his ears, but it needed trimming anyway. So we took him over to my Uncle Dell’s house and Nanny (who incidentally also gave me my first haircut) gave him a good trim. He did really good too, he wasn’t fussy, and held pretty still for the most part. Then we left there and proceeded to spend the next hour or two at Wal-Mart getting last minute stuff for the party.
Bear getting his haircut, look at him cuttin’ those eyes…
Saturday morning Kellar competed in the Liberty Eylau pageant. He was in the Baby Mister division, along with one other boy…apparently there aren’t ever very many boys in the pageant. There were four categories that were being judged in his group…People’s Choice (people at the pageant voted), Best Dressed, Most Photogenic, and Baby Mister. Anyway, I walked Kellar (since he can’t walk himself yet) and out of the four categories, Kellar won all but the Best Dressed! Somehow in the whole ordeal we were able to misplace our camera, so we had to borrow one and we don’t have those pics yet…but we will get them! Our good friend Jessica Roach also took some pictures, so those should be really good as usual. Also as a note, the pictures that we entered in to pageant for Most Photogenic were taken by Jessica.

So after the pageant, we had to get ready for the party…which turned out great! The weather was just about perfect. Kellar had a blast being outside all that time, and seeing all the different people…and there were a lot of people. Thanks to everyone who came out…Kellar is still going through all of his presents! At the end of the party, we gave Kellar a special cake that Chrys had made just for him and let him tear into it. He started out kind of unsure about it. Then he put his fingers in it a little and it seemed ok…but when we gave him a bite with the spoon, he knew what to do. After a bit he started having fun with it and ended up with a green mush all over him! He tore the cake up pretty good!
Kellar’s cake…
Now he’s having fun!
I added a ton of new pics from the last week, including Bear’s first haircut, the party, and his first ride in the Hummer truck his Papaw Norvel and Memaw Marlene got him for his birthday! Like I said, we are still waiting on pics from the pageant with him in his little tux, but we’ll get those up as soon as possible.
He’s not enjoying this at all is he?
It’s mommas turn….
To my little Bear…
Gosh where do I even begin…The last year has just flown by, one day I was praying to God that you would make it and come home w/your daddy and I, and then it’s like I blinked and you are turning one..Kellar I don’t know if you will ever know just what you mean to me, I love you more than I ever thought possible..From the moment I laid eyes on you, my heart melted, I longed to hold you and love on you, but most of all I desperately wanted to bring you home…The day that you were born, my life changed forever, I learned to value the little things, the things that we tend to take for granted, I learned that the littlest person I had not yet even touched had totally taken my heart..I have literally watched you grow right before my very eyes, over the past year I have seen you accomplish so many things and I know that there are many more to come…Your smile makes my day, your giggle makes me bust out laughing, and you being my little bear makes me the proudest mommy on the earth…I am blessed to be able to call you my son, you have shown me what determination is, what a mothers love is, this feeling that takes your breath away, this urge to scoop you up when you are sleeping just to hear you breathe, there are nights when I just lay here and watch you sleeping, its times like these when I thank God for answering my prayers to see you through and for allowing me to bring you home and experience what a mothers love is…I LOVE YOU KELLAR…Happy Birthday to my Lil Bear….
Happy Birthday Kellar!
It’s hard to believe it has been a year already. It seems like just yesterday we were in Dallas, with our little Bear laying in a NICU bed. But here we are…
Well today is Kellar’s birthday, the big number 1. Mom and Mimi were out kind of late last night taking care of last minute things for Bear’s party…which should be a good one. They are renting a big inflatable gym for the bigger kids, and a snow cone machine and cotton candy machine too! I’m pretty sure it is going to be a jungle animal theme. We’ve got the Liberty Eylau pageant that same morning so it is going to be a big day.
Kellar is doing good, he seems to finally be over that cold/sinus infection/pneumonia/whatever is was…and back to his old self. But there also is plenty of Kellar’s new self thrown in there too. The part that can sit up now and pull up to stand if he really tries. The part that is so strong that if he really wants to do something, you’re gonna have a heck of a time keeping him from it. Everyday he learns something new, or is doing something new it seems like.
Now I just want to take a moment to give thanks to everyone who has been with us this past year. Friends, family, people we have never met but continue to pray for us and Kellar everyday. People who keep up with the website, made donations, gave us thoughts and prayers, and generally helped us to get to this point. We really appreciate it. And most of all God…without Him, none of this would have been possible in the first place.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Bear!
