My babys got A*T*T*I*T*U*D*E*…..

And he wants everyone to know it…The last few days if Kellar is unhappy, everyone hears about it…I walked in the other day and started talking to Kellar, the nurse comes from around the corner and asks ” are you sure you want to wake him up”, that was my hint that my lil man had been raising a stink, and it is even more of a hint when you walk in later that night and there he sits, so stinking cute in his swing, then as you get closer, you notice that they have now rigged his pacifier to stay in his mouth…Now when I call I don’t get the usual, oh he’s sleeping and just being a sweet lil man, now I get the, he’s madder than a hornet right now, then as I listen closely, I hear him, all 7 lbs of him belting out a scream like a grown man…Today as Joey was feeding him, he got so mad that the nurses from next door came in to see what was going on, of course me I am asking the nurse like 100 questions as to why all of a sudden is Kellar so mad…This is not how Kellar normally acts, all the nurses talk about how mild he is, so I am worried he may feel bad, does his tummy hurt, is his throat maybe sore from the tube, she said this is normal for a baby that has been in the NICU as long as he has, he’s ready to get out of there…I now know what Leslie means when she refers to some of the babys as ANGRY LIL MEN…I will admit, I get tickled at him, when Joey and I get out to the car after seeing him, we both can’t help but laugh, he’s just so cute even when hes throwing him a little fit…

Here he is in his swing…notice the rigged up pacifier.

Pics update…

This weeks pics are now up. Kellar weighed 7lbs 5oz last night, and he really looks a lot better (less puffy) than he did last week when i saw him, so i’m guessing that’s a pretty accurate weight. And he lost a couple ounces from the night before so maybe that’s the last of it. They have upped him to 30cc’s of milk every 4 hours, and they let him try the bottle every time now…not just twice a day. So far, he has been taking every bit from the bottle…even the 30 cc’s. His nurse tonight said that he gets a little messy towards the end, like he’s getting tired, but they will work with him on it. He’s been having little to no residuals, and everything seems to be working it’s way through ok. On a little bit different note…he loves his swing! The nurses suggested last week (actually the day before his surgery) that Chrys get him some sort of swing to sit in… well she got it, but wasn’t able to get him in it before his surgery. He finally got to get in it a couple days ago, and while he was mad about it at first, all the nurses say he loves it now. That seems to be the thing that saves them when Kellar gets cranky, which seems to be every time he wakes up anymore…i think he’s ready to come home…

8 cc’s…

The dr started Kellar on feeds today, a whoppin 8 cc’s, just enough to tease him…He has been acting really hungry, rooting around on everything from his blankets to his IV in his wrist..Poor fella is starving…I fed him from the bottle twice today, and he took all of it, of course as I said it’s only 8 cc’s, but at least that’s a start in the right direction..So far today no bradys, but I did notice his hr would drop down to the high 80’s…I am still praying against those bradys, infection and that he will tolerate his feedings…

Infection in incision…

Kellar has had some drainage from his incision site and they sent a culture of it off yesterday and today the culture started growing ecoli…He has been on antibiotics since surgery and now that they know exactly what he is growing they changed them up some today to hopefully knock it out…He is still off feedings, I am guessing till the infection clears up, which I have a feeling is only adding to him being so aggravated…Last night he was pretty squirmy and fussy, and dropped his heart rate a time or two, all I know is one time to many for mommy…I was so hoping that we were past that stage, Leslie his nurse said that he may be in pain and holding his breath or bearing down and this causes the heart rate to drop, but one time he did it and was only sleeping, she thinks he was just sleeping really deeply and not breathing in deep enough…Whatever the case it’s very unsettling to watch your childs heart rate drop that low, and even more unsettling to not know what the cause is for sure…He is starting to not look quite so puffy, and of course the quicker they get him off the IV fluids the less fluid he will be taking in…Please continue to pray for Kellar, at times I can tell his is still in pain, just pray that his pain will be eased, his infection clears up, that his heart rate will quit dropping and that his feedings ( when started back ) will go well…
